Handmade 8-String Parlor Mandocello – Completed July 1999
This handmade 8-string parlor mandocello blends boutique craftsmanship, rare tonewoods, and exceptional playability to deliver a rich, resonant voice perfect for classical, folk, and ensemble performance. With a 25.375” scale length and 13 ½ frets to the body, it offers comfortable playability while producing deep, full-bodied tone across all eight strings.
The top is crafted from old-growth Sitka spruce, providing clarity, responsiveness, and strong projection. Reinforced with Sitka spruce bracing, it balances bright articulation with warm, resonant lows. The Hawaiian koa back and sides, paired with Sitka spruce bracing, add depth, sustain, and a visually striking grain. An Indian rosewood fretboard ensures smooth, precise playability.
The neck combines figured maple and Indian rosewood, offering stability and elegant aesthetics. Additional fine details include a wood-lined rosette, mother-of-pearl inlays, rosewood binding with wood purfling, and a mixed rosewood bridge with brass tailpiece for excellent tonal transfer. The Grover F-Style 409 tuners provide precise tuning across all eight strings, while the French polish finish highlights the natural beauty of its tonewoods.
This boutique mandocello is a one-of-a-kind instrument, expertly crafted for collectors and musicians seeking rare tone, beautiful craftsmanship, and the distinctive voice of an 8-string parlor instrument.
